Things that make life worth living → Autumn
A fun way to teach students about inferences.
I do so much talking to my heart and mind these days. It works.
I think what gets me the most about this “to do” list is that to an adult, these items seem trivial and silly, however to a child, this is demonstrating a sense of control over their own lives and the behaviours and activities that essentially make them happy. Rarely do adults write a “to do” list of things that ACTUALLY make them happy. I hardly recall a time in which I scheduled time for me to do something that would essentially make me happy and fulfill some part of my day. If I were to put myself in this child’s sneakers, I would 1. feel proud that I was able to replicate something that grown-ups do, 2. was able to regulate my activities into a productive list of achievable goals, and most importantly, 3. was able to spell “store” correctly. I remembered the “e”!! Although number 2. seems a little bit of a mature thing for a young child to think, I would essentially be practicing a skill at this age that would prepare me later in life. Chore lists, job duties, recipes, instructions, homework completion, exam studying etc.
And yes, I giggled when it states “get dizzy”. But why shouldn’t we all get a little dizzy sometimes? Might shake things up a bit…
This child’s to do list makes me smile - I especially like “get dizzy.” (via A child’s to-do list - Boing Boing)
